Italian-French singer and fashion model from a wealthy family; she was First Lady of France from 2008 to 2012 as the wife of Nicolas Sarkozy, then president of France. Bruni is also the heiress to an Italian tyre manufacturing fortune. Carla Bruni was born to the jet-setter lifestyle. She moved to Paris at age five, but spent much of her childhood in Switzerland at boarding school. She returned to study arts and architecture at the University of Paris. While at the university, her brothers girlfriend suggested she should try modelling and at the age of 19 she dropped out of school and signed with City Models in Paris. That same year, the president of GUESS?, Inc., saw her face in a stack of model photos and knew that she would be a star. Bruni appeared with Estelle Hallyday in a GUESS? Advertising campaign shot in Paris and in another shot in Spain.
