Hbich Walter

German political activist, a leading member of the Communist Party of Germany (German: Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands, KPD). Häbich became known as the chairman of the Communist Youth Association (KJVD) and as one of the victims of the so-called Night of the Long Knives (or the Röhm Purge, also called Operation Hummingbird). In 1933 he had been taken to the Dachau concentration camp as a prisoner and tortured. On 30 June or 1 July 1934, Häbich was shot by members of the SS camp guard together with four other prisoners from the Dachau camp (Julius Adler, Erich Gans, Adam Hereth and Paul Röhrbein).
