Who is Hoo Marshall?

Chinese-American doctor of acupuncture and acupressure with degrees in Oriental medicine and theology. He taught Chinese history, health care and Tai Chi at the California Institute of the Arts and also brought the art of Tai Chi Chuan to Los Angeles and helped promote it, upon the instructions of his teacher, Master Huang Wen Shan. By 1993, more than a thousand of his student are now teaching. In 1984, Hoo met 35-year-younger Strawberry Gatts and they became a couple, moving to Yucaipa, CA in 1988 where Hoo worked as a chiropractor. They made a trip to China in 1990. When Hoo died on 10/02/1993 he left five sons and two daughters. As Gatts made claims to his estate, it became a legal issue.

Public Profile Research: Hoo Marshall

Summary based on details provided: Name “Hoo Marshall,” born Fri May 06 1910 at Oakland, United States.

I attempted to compile news, social media details, recent projects, and other publicly available information. Within non-browsing constraints and checking against general reference knowledge, I could not confirm a widely recognized public figure or a verified modern public profile that matches these specifics. The name may refer to a private individual or a historical figure whose records are primarily in archives rather than contemporary media. Please be cautious not to conflate records from different people who share similar names.

Social media presence

Given the 1910 birth year, direct personal accounts are unlikely. If “Hoo Marshall” is a public or historical figure, any presence today would typically be:

  • Estate- or institution-managed pages (memorial profiles, museum pages, library authority records).
  • Mentions by organizations, local history groups, or family foundations.

Suggested searches for verified mentions and managed pages:

Try name variants and orderings: “Marshall Hoo,” “H. O. Marshall,” “H.O. Marshall,” “H. Marshall,” or possible transliterations like “Hu Marshall.” Use quotes and operators, e.g., "Hoo Marshall" Oakland OR "Alameda County".

News and media coverage

No recent, verifiable news articles tied to the exact identity were found in general reference sources. For historical coverage, consult digitized newspapers and regional archives:

Example queries: "Hoo Marshall" Oakland; "Marshall, Hoo" Oakland; "H. O. Marshall" Oakland; and consider broadening to Alameda County or the San Francisco Bay Area.

Recent projects or activities

For a person born in 1910, “recent projects” would likely be posthumous releases, reissues, exhibitions, digitizations, or archival descriptions rather than personal undertakings. To check for such activity:

Look for collection guides, finding aids, exhibition announcements, or digitized materials that cite “Hoo Marshall.”

Other public information

To validate identity and avoid mixing individuals:

  • Check city directories, voter rolls, or historical registries for Oakland/Alameda County.
  • Search genealogical databases (with care for privacy and terms of use): FamilySearch, Ancestry, Find A Grave.
  • Review obituaries or centennial retrospectives in local newspapers and community archives.

If the individual was involved in a specific profession (e.g., academia, arts, public service), consult sector-specific indexes (Google Scholar for academics, union/association records for trades, exhibition catalogs for artists).

Next steps

If you can share additional context—profession, middle name or initials, known aliases, notable works, organizations, approximate years of activity, or relatives/associates—it will be possible to refine the search and differentiate between namesakes. With more details, I can draft a targeted search plan or a curated list of likely sources.
