Mexican politician who is the President-elect of Mexico until he is inaugurated as President on 1 December 2018. He held the position of Head of Government of the Federal District from 2000 to 2005, before resigning in July 2005 to contend the 2006 presidential election, representing the Coalition for the Good of All, a coalition led by the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) that includes the Convergence party and the Labor Party. He is the leader of the National Regeneration Movement (MORENA) and was a candidate for 2012 presidential election, representing a coalition of the PRD, Labor Party and Citizens Movement (formerly Convergence). He announced his resignation from the party on 9 September 2012. He is nicknamed "Peje," named after the common Tabasco fish, the pejelagarto. On 8 April 1979, he married Rocío Beltrán Medina. They had three sons: José Ramón López Beltrán (born 1982), Andrés Manuel López Beltrán (born 1987), and Gonzálo Alfonso López Beltrán (born 1991). On 12 January 2003, Rocío died due to respiratory arrest due to lupus, which she had been suffering for several years. On 16 October 2006, he married for the second time to Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller, who also happened to work in the Mexico City government during López Obradors tenure as Head of Government.
