Margaret Rose Windsor, commonly known as Princess Margaret, was a member of the British royal family. She was born on 21 August 1930 at Glamis Castle, near Kirriemuir, Scotland, as the younger daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, and the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. She held the title Princess of the United Kingdom and, after her marriage, Countess of Snowdon.
In 1960, she married Antony Armstrong-Jones, who became Earl of Snowdon. They had two children: David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon, and Lady Sarah Chatto. The couple divorced in 1978. Margaret died on 9 February 2002 at King Edward VII's Hospital in London following a stroke.
