Pieniazek Szczepan

Polish botanist, humanist, teacher, orchard authority of the scientific community, founder of the Institute of Pomology and Floriculture, a professor of SGGW in Warsaw, a member and vice president of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the scientific work dealt with pomology, plant physiology, cultivation of fruit trees, orchards protection. He has published about 100 scientific papers, including academic book Arboriculture (1954), Around the orchard of the world. Practice prof. The coin was that all young workers employed at the Institute of Pomology Agricultural University were sent on internships abroad. Mostly to the United States or Great Britain. As a result of his actions in the days of the Iron Curtain more than 1,000 people held an internship in the United States, and nearly 100 in Europe. Prof. Stephen Pieniążek was the author of a revolution in Polish orchards. He was decorated with, among others, Officers Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Polish, the Commanders Cross with Star of the Order of the Rebirth of Polish (1994). He was an honorary doctor of Agricultural Academy in Krakow, Poznan and Szczecin, Warsaw Agricultural University and the University of Bonn. He died 1 July 2008.
