Sperber Wendie

American comedian and actress who began her career on stage, expanding to movies. A bit on the heavy-set side, she was usually cast in minor or supporting roles but became well-known when she landed a gig on the two-year run of the hit TV sitcom, "Bosom Buddies" with Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari (1980-1982) followed by movies and stage appearances including a role in the movie "Private Benjamin" with Goldie Hawn. The mother of two children, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 39 (1997). Nevertheless, she continued to act on stage and on film. Her cancer returned in 2002 and she died of the disease on November 29, 2005 at her Sherman Oaks, CA home.
