Stang Axel

Norwegian landowner, forester, and politician. In 1933 he become a member of Najonal Samling, the fascist party founded by Vidkun Quisling. During World War II he served as councillor of state and minister in Quislings pro-Nazi puppet government. After the war, in 1946, he was sentenced to forced labour for life for his involvement with the Nazi occupation. At his appeal to the supreme court a minority of three judges voted for the death penalty, among them his third cousin, Emil Stang. He was released in 1956 and retired to his estate at Rømskog, where he remained until his death. Stang died on 11 October 1974, aged 70. Link to Wikipedia biography Read less
