Wicki Bernard

Austrian actor and film director. He immigrates to Switzerland in 1944 after many months imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp for illegal political association in the Bündishen Jugend, a boy-scout like organization banned by the Nazi party in 1933. Hitler wanted no other groups other than those sponsored by the state like the Hitler Youth. After the war Wicki acted and was a photographer and ultimately becomes a film director. He is active film-maker from 1958 until his death in 2000. In 1960 he is nominated for Academy Award for best foreign picture for his anti-war film "Die Brücke." Link to Wikipedia biography Read less
