Biography

Primo Levi, born Levi Primo on July 31, 1919, in Turin, Italy, was an Italian Jewish chemist and one of the most celebrated writers of the postwar era. He studied chemistry at the University of Turin and worked as a chemist before and after World War II. In 1943 he was arrested by fascist forces and deported to Auschwitz, where he survived until the camp’s liberation in 1945. His experiences formed the core of his most famous works.
