Bonifacio Liborio

Italian veterinarian, who developed the so-called Bonifacio serum in the 1960s, in the belief that goats did not suffer from cancer. The serum, a goat-based faeces and urine compound, according to its inventor, would have therapeutic effects for the treatment of cancers, but this claim was made without scientific foundation. The serum was patented under the name of Oncoclasina Bonifacio, the son of the inventor. The preparation was obtained from the stools and urine of a slaughtered animal, with the addition of bidistilled water, filtered and sterilized, then injected into the patient every 48 hours. The then Minister of Health Camillo Ripamonti authorized a trial of the serum, involving 16 patients, which provided disappointing results (4 patients died during the experiment, no one showed any improvement). Despite this, Liborio Bonifacio continued to produce and distribute his serum after further experimentation. He died in Agropoli on 17 March 1983, aged 74.
