Transit Calculator See where the planets are today in your own chart

A transit, or gochar, is where a planet is in the sky now, read against your birth chart. This calculator places today's Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu in the houses of your chart, counted from your Lagna and from your Moon sign, and gives the date each one next changes sign.

Enter your birth details

Use the time from your birth certificate if you have it. The houses from your Lagna need it; the houses from your Moon sign rarely change with the time.

Local clock time at the place of birth.

Your birth details are used only to calculate this chart. They are not saved to an account or added to the page address. This tab remembers them for the other calculators and forgets them when you close it.

What the calculator shows

Your birth chart and today's planets, from one calculation.

  • Today's positions

Each planet's sign, degree, nakshatra and pada right now, worked out for your birth place's time zone, with retrograde and combust planets marked.

  • Houses from your Lagna

The house of your birth chart each planet is passing through, counted from your Lagna sign as the 1st.

  • Houses from your Moon

The same count from your Moon sign, which is how most transit readings in Vedic astrology are given.

  • The slow planets

Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu–Ketu, which stay in a sign for a year or more, each with the house it is in from your Moon and your Lagna and the date it next changes sign.

  • Sade Sati and Dhaiya

Whether Saturn is in the 12th, 1st or 2nd sign from your Moon (Sade Sati) or the 4th or 8th (Dhaiya). The Sade Sati calculator gives the full dates.

  • Transits over your chart

Today's planets drawn in the houses of your birth chart, so you can see which house each one is passing through.

  • Any other date

Pick a date from 1901 to 2040 to see the planets on that day at noon, without entering your birth details again.

Why the birth time matters

The houses counted from your Lagna depend on the Lagna, which changes sign about every two hours. A birth time that is off by an hour can move every transit into the neighbouring house from the Lagna.

The houses counted from your Moon depend only on your Moon sign. The Moon stays in a sign for about two and a half days, so those houses change with the birth time only when you were born close to the Moon's change of sign.

How DKSCORE calculates transits

  • Two charts, one calculation

DKSCORE calculates your birth chart and the planets' positions now with the same engine: sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa and the true Rahu and Ketu.

  • Now, where you were born

"Now" is the date and clock time in your birth place's time zone. Positions are calculated for a 10-minute slot, and the page shows which.

  • Whole-sign houses

Your Lagna sign is the 1st house from the Lagna and your Moon sign the 1st house from the Moon; the next sign is the 2nd, and so on. A planet's house is the house of the sign it is in.

  • Next sign change

The date a planet next enters a new sign is read from an ephemeris with a row every 12 hours, so it is given to within about half a day. Rahu and Ketu move backwards through the signs, and a retrograde planet can step back into the previous sign.

FAQ

Transit calculator: questions and answers

What is a transit (gochar) in Vedic astrology?
A transit, called gochar in Sanskrit, is the present position of a planet in the zodiac, read against your birth chart. Astrologers look at which house of your chart a planet is passing through, usually counted from your Moon sign and from your Lagna.
How does this calculator work out my transits?
DKSCORE calculates your birth chart and where the planets are now with the same engine (sidereal zodiac, Lahiri ayanamsa, true Rahu and Ketu), then counts each planet's whole-sign house from your Lagna sign and your Moon sign. For example, for a birth in Delhi on 1 January 1990 at 10:30, the Lagna and the Moon are both in Kumbha. On 29 October 2026 at 12:30 Saturn is in Meena, the 2nd sign from both, Jupiter is in Karka, the 6th, and Rahu is in Kumbha, the 1st. The result shows the same counts for your own chart.
Why are the houses counted from both my Lagna and my Moon?
Most transit readings in Vedic astrology count from the Moon sign, which is why horoscopes are written for Moon signs. Astrologers also count from the Lagna, which gives the houses of your own birth chart. When your Lagna and Moon are in the same sign the two counts are the same.
What does it mean when Saturn is in the 12th, 1st or 2nd from my Moon?
That is the window called Sade Sati: about seven and a half years while Saturn passes through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. Saturn in the 4th or 8th sign from the Moon is called Dhaiya. The calculator says when Saturn is in one of these signs; the Sade Sati calculator gives the start and end dates of each phase.
How exact are the dates for the next sign change?
They are to within about 12 hours: the date is read from an ephemeris that has a row every 12 hours. For the slow planets that is close enough to plan around. The Moon changes sign about every two and a half days, so for the Moon the date is the day only.
Why do Rahu and Ketu move backwards?
Rahu and Ketu are the points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's, and those points drift backwards through the zodiac, taking about 18 months for each sign. Their next sign is therefore the previous sign in the usual order. Rahu and Ketu are always opposite each other.
Can I see the transits for another date?
Yes. Under the result, pick any date from 2 January 1901 to 29 December 2040 and the calculator shows the planets on that day at 12:00 noon in your birth place's time zone, with the houses from your Lagna and Moon. Your birth details stay as they are.
Why does another website show a slightly different degree?
Calculators differ in the ayanamsa they use (this one uses Lahiri), in whether they use the true or the mean Rahu and Ketu, and in the moment they calculate for. This page shows the date, time and time zone it used, and the method, so you can compare.
Are my birth details saved?
Your details are used only to calculate the result. They are not saved to an account or profile, and they are never added to the page address or sent to analytics.

A transit is read together with your running dasha and the strength of each planet in your chart. An astrologer puts today's positions in that context.
